The Indian Air Force is set to acquire three I-STAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance) aircraft in a Rs 10,000 crore project. These advanced aircraft from Boeing or Bombardier will feature indigenous DRDO-developed sensors and electronics.
The I-STAR aircraft will provide multi-spectral surveillance capabilities, enabling detection and targeting of enemy assets like radar installations and command posts in all conditions and terrains. Operating at high altitudes from safe distances, they allow precision strikes without entering hostile airspace - a capability possessed by only a few countries including the US and Israel.
This system will give the IAF real-time battlefield awareness and the ability to engage high-value targets deep in enemy territory while minimizing risk. The aircraft are expected to strengthen India's deterrence strategy, enable rapid military responses, and enhance national security along its borders.
The project represents a significant advancement in India's defense technology and reflects the country's commitment to indigenous defense capabilities, positioning the IAF among elite global military forces.
